Together with their durability, low energy consumption and the fact they don't have bulbs that require replacement, LED flashlight have many advantages over more conventional flashlights. But, their prevalence was stunted before by their higher prices. Fortunately, prices for many things LED have started to return thus making them a much better value and a popular alternative for flashlights.

When comparing flashlights, one has to be aware of the various facets which make it impossible for LED flashlights to be costly as low as many other flashlights, as part of yet. Conventional flashlights often consist of little more than a bulb, tube, batteries and a switch. On the other hand, LED flashlights require some form of microprocessor or voltage regulation system to work properly. The LEDs are also pricier than standard bulbs. Furthermore, since LED light is a newer technologies, and they have not been manufactured from the quantities additional kinds of lighting have, LEDs haven't attained the economies of scale along with cheaper production costs other flashlights have.

The largest advantage of LEDs is they use much less electricity than incandescent flashlights. As a result of this, the batteries may last substantially longer. Another benefit is long-lasting durability of the LED flashlights. Whereas the filament in a flashlight with an incandescent bulbs is certain to burn out finally because the gas in the bulb slowly flows out, LEDs can endure for years and years. As a matter of fact, LED lights have the potential to last for 15 years or longer. Despite their electronics, LED flashlights are far more immune to being dropped and other shocks which often occur when people use flashlights. However, they're more sensitive to heat (but do not produce quite as much heat as incandescent bulbs).

While the directional lighting LEDs produce is not always desired for house lighting, it's an advantage for flashlight usage where a highly directional beam is usually optimal for flashlight usage.
